Changing travel
The Modobag® is a revolutionary piece of motorized carry-on luggage. With 29.5 litres of packing space, the Modobag® can accommodate riders up to 118kg.
This innovative product was invented by Chicago entrepreneur and avid traveller Kevin O’Donnell. The idea struck him when he was pulling the kids on his suitcase at the airport, and wondered, “Why can’t we ride our luggage and get to where we’re going faster with less stress?”
He worked together with his motorcyclist friend, Boyd Bruner, to bring to life the vision of making traveling more functional and fun.
The bag can travel up to 6+ miles on a single charge. It is lightweight, and can easily convert from motor to pull-behind use. It comes with dual USB charging ports for your electronics and optional GPRS-GSM tracking.
Design and Prototyping
The Modobag® was designed and prototyped at mHub, Chicago, the innovative business incubator for physical product development and manufacturing.
Watch Kevin O’Donnell, Boyd Bruner and engineer Ritchie Byun describe how the Formech 686 vacuum forming machine helped bring the Modobag® interior panels to life and become an integral part of bag.
Taking it to the next level
Using ALWA POR material, which is porous so doesn't require vacuum holes, the team were able to create tooling that was more detailed, smoother and faster than previous tool materials.
"Working with Formech and the 686 machine and the ALWA POR has been a lifesaver for us", said Ritchie Byun. "It's going to allow us to take our production to the next level."
